Dugan - Good/Bad Website Smack Down

Video-  Video     There are four main aspects that make a good website. These aspects are, one, the purpose of the website. This means does the website have a clear goal/purpose that can be seen. Two, aesthetically pleasing. Is the website pleasing to look at and easy on the eyes, it's not overwhelming, and it's current for the time. Three, is the website relevant. Does it have content that is relevant to your market. Lastly number four, is the website easy and clear to navigate. This means for everyone and not just tech savvy people. The website needs to be easily  accessible with good support and fast load time. There are a few reasons I chose IKEA as a good website. These are the exceptionally fast load times, the easily accessible help, the well organized website that's not too cluttered and not too overwhelming on the eyes, and how easy it is to find what you need.      In order to show why IKEA is a good website and Ashley Furnitu...

Blog #4 Chapter 3 - Dugan

Image
Chapter three of "The Connected Educator" by Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach, the author talks about PLNs or Personal learning networks. She explains the concept, the importance, how to create one, and the role the PLNs play in education. A PLN is essential an online group of connected people in the same career. These people can make friends or relationships through these groups and learn and teach others with allows their careers to  flourish. This is important because not every career gains the professional development they need through their given resources so PLNs allow them to reach out and gain their own knowledge through others who have more experience in the field. Or who have been in similar situations. This allows for more growth than someone who is not a part of a PLN.      The author also emphasizes the importance of technology in the current age. Only a few decades ago professionals had less opportunities to expand their career knowledge simpl...

Web Tool Smackdown - Dugan

For my Web Tool Smackdown I chose the application RingCentral. RingCentral is essentially a video chatting application that can be downloaded onto a computer or on a phone which makes it extremely versatile to use on the go as well. Like I said in my video which was slightly over the allotted time just because there are so many features on RingCentral, you can hold online meetings or video conferences. But you can also message people without having to be in a meeting. You can set up a direct message with them and it will they will receive it. Or you can create a team, which is essentially a group chat and you can collaborate with others. RingCentral allows you to upload and share files so you can work on documents or presentations as a group without actually having to be face-to-face.      Also you can see who is online, if you have ever used the app Instagram then you know you can see if your friends are on the app swell. This is the same with RingCen...

Blog Post #3 Chapter 5- Dugan

Image
Chapter 5, in "The Connected Educator" by Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach, "The Power of Personal Learning Networks" is about how important the creation and nurture of personal learning is for professional development in one's career. For the author's case she uses the example of a teacher or educator. Educator's can connect to people close to them and on the other side of the globe. Another point the author makes is that technology is a crucial tool in a personal learning network. Without technology teachers and educators would not be able to connect with others who are not locally near them. Technology allows them to access blogs, websites, online discussions and forums.      In the chapter the idea of how educators can cultivate continuous learning within themselves and their community is touched upon as well. Continued learning after getting a job is crucial for growth and in some cases promotions. The world is ever changing and more and more knowledge i...

App Smackdown - Group Me

Like I said in my presentation GroupMe is a group messaging app. It allows you to make huge groups of people that are organized and convenient. For example, instead of attaching everyone to an email you instead make a chat on GroupMe and add everyone to it. You can do that by either using their phone number, email QR code, or link. This chat will know allow you to send information out fast and send reminders. This is useful for trying to manage a large group, obviously humans forget sometimes, so you can send a reminder to the chat. Also if you need to share a file or image GroupMe allows you to do that quite easily by attaching it to the app and sending it as a message. Another useful feature of GroupMe is making decisions between groups. An example of this is the Owner or Admin of the group chat can set a poll. This poll sets a question and multiple options the members can choose.      I could use GroupMe in both my coursework and my professiona...
